THE REGENCY RENOVATION

HOVE, SUSSEX

A Regency Revival For Contemporary Living

Nestled in the heart of Hove, just moments from the sea, this elegant Regency townhouse has been reimagined for modern living, paying homage to its rich architectural heritage and historic location. Though well-maintained and refurbished over the years, the home lacked inspiration —our clients sought a fresh perspective to transform their new house into a home. With a client-orientated design approach, Pfeiffer Design seamlessly blended contemporary comfort with the grandeur of the original period features, enhancing the townhouse’s timeless elegance for 21st-century living.

Through a meticulous restoration process, we celebrated the home’s architectural details, introducing a refined yet unexpected palette of materials and colour. Bespoke joinery and carefully considered spatial planning brought a sense of cohesion and sophistication, ensuring the interiors felt luxurious, inviting and deeply connected to the property’s storied past. A perfect balance of timeless Regency charm and modern functionality, this family home stands as a prominent pillar of Brighton & Hove’s history—and we are truly proud to be part of its design journey.

A Thoughtful Transformation For Modern Living

From Tired to Timeless

While rich in character and history, this Regency townhouse required a complete refurbishment to meet the demands of modern living. Though undeniably grand, the layout needed thoughtful reconfiguration to enhance functionality, flow and everyday comfort. Outdated fixtures and finishes no longer served the home’s potential, calling for a refined upgrade that balanced both style and practicality. By thoughtfully integrating contemporary fittings with new wiring, our comprehensive lighting and electrical design packages elevated the home’s energy efficiency while introducing layered lighting schemes tailored to modern-day living—enhancing both ambiance and functionality for the conveniences of today.

A Bespoke Lighting Package

Illuminating Space With Purpose

Lighting played a crucial role in revitalising this Regency townhouse. With aged existing fixtures providing poor energy efficiency and inadequate illumination, we implemented a fully bespoke lighting design package, balancing technical precision with decorative elegance. Task lighting was carefully integrated into key areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, while architectural features were accentuated through subtle, strategically placed lighting. Sculptural statement pieces were introduced at varying levels throughout the home, creating layered lighting schemes that added depth, warmth and visual interest while honouring the home’s rich heritage.

A key aspect of the project was the careful preservation of the home’s incredible antique chandeliers. Working closely with skilled restorers, we carefully removed, regilded and rewired each piece, ensuring their beauty and craftsmanship were retained while enhancing their longevity and energy efficiency. This delicate balance of restoration and innovation allowed us to celebrate the property’s historic charm while embracing contemporary sustainability.

Honouring Heritage

A Tribute to Regency Elegance

As a landmark of Brighton & Hove, careful preservation and restoration of the existing architectural features were central to this renovation. Original ornate cornicing, grand sash windows and elegant proportions were celebrated, providing a rich historical backdrop for design that reflects the personality and lifestyle of its owners. Every detail was thoughtfully considered to honour the home’s heritage while seamlessly integrating functionality required for modern family living. By sourcing and collaborating with expert restoration specialists, timeless craftsmanship was celebrated throughout, effortlessly blending period elegance with contemporary refinement.

Incorporating The Client's Story

Complimenting Those Timeless Pieces

With a carefully curated collection of antiques and vintage pieces from our client’s previous home, it was essential to seamlessly integrate these cherished items into their new space. Taking a thoughtful approach to spatial design, we meticulously considered each piece, ensuring its placement felt intentional and cohesive within the wider scheme. From statement furniture to delicate decorative accessories, every item was given a purpose and a place, connecting the homeowner’s history to the home while complementing its new aesthetic.

A key part of this process was designing bespoke joinery coordinated to enhance the home’s functionality while housing each treasured furnishings. Custom-built bookcases were crafted for the client’s historic literature collection, while a beautifully tailored kitchen and elegant storage solutions provided both function and refinement. Every element was designed from scratch with timelessness in mind, mirroring the profiles of the property’s architecture while embracing modern functionality.

Creating interiors that feel truly personal to each of our clients individually is always at the forefront of our design process. Harmonising balance between aesthetics and functionality, we aim to weave each occupant of the home into the very narrative of their interiors.
