It’s exactly one year today since we broke ground on our new purpose-built interior design studio, nestled deep in the Sussex South Downs – and what a year it’s been!
Despite the pandemic, we have been lucky enough to be able to continue our build throughout most of 2020, adapting to working in a Covid-safe manner, and thus have experienced only minor delay, which is to be expected in a build of this scale. Our two-storey Studio will provide much-needed space for our team of interior designers, having rapidly outgrown our current studio space. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the exterior of the structure has been designed in keeping with the traditional style of the adjacent buildings, and has a barn-style appearance when viewed from the outside. In contrast, the interior is a contemporary open-plan design featuring an exposed steel-frame with steel trusses over the double-height spaces. We’ve incorporated a mezzanine floor with a perimeter balustrade and various flexible internal spaces, including a meeting and presentation room, kitchen, living area and various open expanses allowing for complete flexibility when once again we are able to host events and client presentations. Set partially into the existing bank, the kitchen is set below an external decked area with reinforced glass skylights. The original flint boundary wall has been maintained and improved to allow additional access gates, and incorporated into a transformative landscape design, perfectly suited to its rural Sussex location.
The end is now in sight for our build, meaning we can shortly get to work on the FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) design stages. We aim to use the space not only as somewhere for our designers to work from, but for client presentations, demonstrations, events and as a showcase space for our trusted and highly valued suppliers.
When it comes to shaping interior spaces, two terms often come up: interior design and interior architecture. We cover the key differences between both practices and why understanding this difference matters.
