Victorian Countryside Family Home

West Sussex

Contemporary Family Living in the Heart of the Countryside

A true labour of love, Pfeiffer Design’s full and comprehensive package was utilised on this contemporary but timeless update to a stunning Victorian Family Home. Spanning over 3 years, our expert design team engaged with our clients from concept to completion on this extensive and heavily detailed project. The bespoke packages spanned: joinery design, meticulously designed bathrooms, tiling, flooring, decoration, detailed lighting and electrical design, radiators, doors and ironmongery, as well as our full FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) package.

Situated on acres of private land, with spectacular views of the countryside, and stunning period features, the home was clearly very special to our clients, having been their family home for many years, but was in need of an interior overhaul to bring it into the now. Our brief was to create a bright but sophisticated family home, which felt luxurious, yet cosy and comfortable, while also being future proof for the family’s ever-changing lifestyle and requirements.

A bed with decorative pillows is the focal point, featuring a tray with croissants and a vase. The room is bright, with a plant nearby and an artistic photo on the wall.
A white vase with green eucalyptus stands on a glass table. Nearby, books with titles like
Two comfortable, modern armchairs face a small circular table topped with a vase and books. Natural light streams through large windows, revealing greenery outside, while elegant curtains frame the scene.

Practicality at the Forefront of Family Homes

Designing for Longevity

Understanding how our designs accommodate the lifestyle of the client is incredibly important to us; Particularly when it comes to families. We never quite know where life will take us but designing for longevity is always a good idea. At Pfeiffer Design, we focus on you and your requirements. Our tried and tested design process puts you at the forefront and enables our clients to be as involved as they would like to be.

This full home renovation was designed with the family in mind, every element meticulously considered to deliver practicality and functionalism to our client’s everyday lives. With older children, inevitably looking to leave the nest, and a constantly changing family dynamic, our clients placed high importance on the home’s ability to evolve and stay relevant to the family for years to come. And with such an impressive amount of space, it was easy to accommodate future-proofing so that the children, or in fact even future grandchildren, could come back to stay whenever they needed!

Really considering how you interact within your home is key to delivering exactly what you need from your interiors. If you feel your home isn’t quite lending itself to your family’s everyday needs, get in touch with our expert design team today!

No Stone Left Unturned

Going Above and Beyond

The majority of design work and refurbishment required in this project was undertaken throughout the pandemic, but that didn’t stop our designers from meticulously selecting and specifying every minute detail.

Supplier showroom visits were foregone in the early stages in favour of samples laid out on bedroom floors, with one particularly memorable tiling meeting with our clients being undertaken outside, bacon sandwiches in hand! Throughout the build process, our clients lived in a refurbished RV on the grounds, so the pressure really was on to deliver our designs and on-site project coordination in a timely fashion.

At Pfeiffer Design, we always endeavour to exceed expectations. If you’re thinking about an upcoming renovation or new build project, our expert design team is on hand to support and guide you through the entire process, from concept to completion.

Bespoke Sustainability

Reclaiming period features

The home had been renovated several times since its construction in the late 19th century and with this in mind, further refurbishment needed to be undertaken sensitively, with as little disruption and damage as possible. Pfeiffer Design was engaged to salvage and rework many of the house’s beautiful period features which made for a really exciting challenge.

Working with our expert local craftspeople, including joiners, upholsterers, furniture makers, metalworkers, lighting makers, stone merchants and many more, we created and commissioned beautiful pieces of bespoke furniture to suit our clients’ every need and work within our design scheme. Whether it’s refurbishing your favourite sofa or designing and building bespoke joinery, Pfeiffer Design works closely with our clients to design, specify and manufacture anything you need to make your interior vision come to life.

And, if we hadn’t mentioned it before, we recently won the Anna Whitehead Award for Sustainability from the British Institute of Interior Designers, so we definitely know what we’re talking about when it comes to your next sustainable home project.
